In many countries today, many people of different cultural background, ethnicity, religion and social beliefs are hired too many jobs, company and services. They are people who come from different countries.
There are also many collaborations and partnerships between companies in different countries, which require many preparations for good communication. Due to the many diverse countries and company, it is important to understand that intercultural communication is important in the workplace and during working team environments where different cultures join to create something amazing. Intercultural communication is very important in the current industry.
Intercultural communication enables the person to have the ability to deal with problems or to be able to communicate across many cultures (Burrus, 2014). To deal with different cultures and different aspects of their society can help solve things properly and can help survive and thrive to become global leaders in the world (Burrus, 2014). To not have this ability is basically asking for the backlash against the company for not having intercultural proper communication leading to bankruptcy.
Intercultural communication is also important in working team environments. In many companies, group work is usually used to create projects instead of individuals.
When people work together, there will be other members that might speak a different language or different communication styles which may create conflict and disrupt the chemistry of the group or interrupt the progress of the project. For example, many in the western world tend to be informal in speaking to other members of the group regardless of age, but for a Japanese or a Korean person, it will be different since their culture have a formal and an informal way of speaking, additionally to also respect someone who is older than them.
In some cultures, people appear to be rude and aggressive, when they talk but are just normal, however, it can appear to be rude or intimidating to the person whose culture values manners more than anything else. Therefore, learning different cultures of the other members before having a team meeting can help in having a smooth communication and can work the project effectively (Xaxx, 2019).
