Communicating on Websites

The Mackay regional website is a quite well composed, informative website if not a little overfilled. Upon opening the site, the viewer is almost bombarded with imagery from around the Mackay region. While the site does show a lot of Mackay its also quite overblown and “noisy” in its overuse of images.

According to Cenere, P. , Gill, R. , Lawson, C. & Lewis, M. (2018) noise in communication is “The loss or distortion of a message…” (Communication Skills for Business Professionals. (2018)). The Mackay Regional Council website, while very colourful also has an abundance of images throughout its page, and very little text. While one of the more effective ways of getting traffic is using images the overuse in the council website becomes unappealing and slightly over blown.

The site is filled with information on shows, events and community life in Mackay and does a decent job of displaying it. The site uses a tile system to display its information and advertise however the lack of texts makes finding events a little more difficult as they aren’t as well defined as other websites or council websites specifically.
